Outdoor mojo...start with curb appeal.

Thursday, April 22, 2010

In honour of earth day today, let's all get our outdoor mojo going. The next few months for us Canadians usually mean we slowly thaw out of winter and start sprucing up our front and backyards. Unfortunately I don't live on any grand estate with manicured gardens galore (one day), and every house kinda blends into the next. So what can I do to get a curb appeal quick fix? Here is my little to do list to get it all started.

Step 1: Clean, clean and clean again. My front porch could use some power washing. My door could use a good wipe and time to pick up and fly away garbage. Image credit here

Step 2: Bring on the foliage. I'm a planter gal (mostly because I don't have a green thumb to save my life) but also because I love playing with boxes of all sorts of shapes and sizes. The middle one is my favourite. Image here.

Classic. I like the scale if you can pull it off. Image here.

Uniform planters. I like. Image via Apartment Therapy

Step 4: Bring in that pop of colour. Now, I'm no where near brave enough or have the energy to fight my hubby to get a colourful front door going. But could you imagine? Image here.

Conservative folks like me can bring in colour through flower power. One of my happiest memories is planting flowers last year with my daughter. So bring the kiddies in on the fun. Image credit here

Flowers brighten up any front porch. Lovely. I like that bench too. Image here.

Or bring the pop of colour through the planter. nice. Image here.

Step 5: Don't forget the bling. You can bring it through fancy hardware. LOVE that blue door. Image via here.

There you have it. 5  steps to instant curb appeal. Now for the hard part- getting started. Happy Earth Day.

Great outdoor inspiration pics :-) I just cleaned our front door & sidelights a few days ago. The windows are so clear now!!

Love the big planters in the second picture. I'd love to do something like that in our backyard. And the turquoise door with the silver hardware is gorgeous. I wish that was my front door!!

The bowl from CSN arrived -- it's so bright & colourful :-) I put it in a glass cabinet in our kitchen so it's on display and adds colour to the room :-) THANK YOU!!
