Desi Art: Vintage Air India

Thursday, September 9, 2010

So my dad has been in the travel biz for decades so I have seen this little guy since I was a kid on pamphlets, posters and I'm sure on a mug or two around the house (no he doesn't work for this airline). I'm pretty sure my mom still has a ceramic version sitting on her knick knack shelf somewhere.
Air India Logo. Big deal you say? Image via here.
I never gave it much thought but recently came across several vintage Air India posters that are now going for thousands of dollars at some auction houses. Who knew?
Yes a strange turbaned monk combo happening here, but this one was estimated to go for $800-$1000.  It is fun. Image via here.
This guy is going for $750. I know, I can't believe it either, but then again what do I know about  vintage travel posters. This is dated 1969 and I'm loving that orange. Image via here.
Rest assured there still some affordable options for us who just want to throw up some fun on the walls. This would look great in a Den or in a playroom. I think I would like this in my son's room. Apparently the vintage one goes for over $300 but you can pick up a reproduction at Amazon for $13. Available here.
This one is gorgeous too. Like a story book. It would look fab in my kid's room. Super affordable at for $14.

There is something so charming and whimsical about these I can see why they are going for so much money.

Gosh! I don't know how I missed this post and the previous one! I LOVED this post.. How wonderfully well researched! I think I'm going to make coasters out of these posters. That way I get them for really cheap! Thanks for the link to Amazon and Allposters- if I blotch up my coasters I'll just buy a poster :)
