Ask DW: Red tomato or Graphite?

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

My aunt that has been hunting for a sofa. Read here. Finally has settled on the Hennessy from Crate & Barrel (or at least that's the top contender right now). The question is what colour? I was thinking originally finding her a navy, grey or indigo sofa (she likes them dark), but now she is loving this piece in the tomato red. She needs two sofas in this colour. The family room is a blank slate right now. My original plan was to bring in indigos, cream, pewter, gold and red. What do you think readers? Should she go for the red or stay safe with the graphite?

This is a tough one, yesterday I was into the tomato red but today I'm leaning towards the neutral graphite. Would you get tired of the red? I wonder. Hennessy available at Crate & Barrel.

I don't know how true the colours are, but I like the graphite colour too!

Does it have to be a matched set? I like both colors, how about she gets one of whichever color and finds complementing chairs or something? a print or stripes or anything else to break up the monotony.

Two of the red might end up being too much.

I vote graphite!! You can always accessorize with red.

I love a red couch but have found that I can live longer with a neutral couch. Graphite it is.

For a clean slate I would actually pick an area rug first, and pick the rest of the colors from there. I like both, although I do love me a gray sofa =)

If it were me, I'd go safe with graphite. Maybe I'm a couch commitment phobe ;)
