Big girl bed

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

We are trying to get our toddler out of his crib (well actually, out of our bed) by giving him his sister's bed, while she gets a new on (one of the few perks of being the first born). I want an upholstered bed for her but can't quite decide on the style. I need it to be fairly affordable as I rather splurge on a decent mattress for both of them. Here is what I was thinking...but opinions would be much appreciated. Which style should I go with?
This shape is the top contender. Not this colour though, I'm thinking light linen or something. Image via G.H. Johnson.
Right colour..but I want this bed to grow with her. It is very romantic. Not sure about that skirt though. Available at Pottery Barn.
This one is nice. Not sure though..too grown up looking. Image via West Elm.
This one is very french & pretty. Available at Restoration Hardware.
What about this one? I need to decide soon! Image via G.H. Johnson

I actually like the more girl romantic ones- can't help it:) My favourites are the 2nd and 4th with number 2 being at the top of my list I think- I really want to do an upholstered headboard in my daughter's room too- they're just so pretty. You should check out Danielle at Danielle Oakley Interiors- she did a DIY headboard for her daughter and it turned out so beautifully- she included the instructions as well- Shannon at Pink Wallpaper also did a fabulous one.

I pick #4. First one too masculine, second is too too girly, third is too grown up...4 and 5 are nice, tho I like 4 better, and its a nice size that she can use for a long time.

I like #1 or #2 in a lighter fabric.

I really like #1 in style and shape but like you said with a lighter colour fabric.

I'm voting for the Restoration Hardware bed - its sooo pretty & I like that it's an actual bed frame as well as headboard, and that means that you don't have to have a bed skirt if you don't want. If it's affordability you're wanting, #1 or #2 (like #2's shape for a little girl) in the right fabric might be the way to go - you'd use a basic metal bed frame and attach the headboard to either the wall (which is nice and secure for bouncy girls! HaHa!) or to the frame itself. I love upholstered headboards and plan on making one for our bedroom!

The Restoration Hardware bed looks like the one most likely to "grow" with your daughter. It's got a nice balance of masculine and feminine. I'm not too crazy about the colour combination, though. Is that something you could modify? I think with the right linens, it could look very striking! Good luck!

I like the last one...not too girly, not too grown up but still feminine, and fun . I like the Restoration Hardwood as well but I am not very keen on pink.

Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn are my favs! Though the first one might be pretty in a light colour! She deserves a romantic, princess bed!

i like the restoration hardware one. as a little girl it would seem dream like, but as a big girl it would be classic and simple, and great for sitting up in bed.
