Ahem, a little bit of me.

I have absolutely no problem blogging and rambling on and on about other people's homes. I have no problem sharing tips and advice (even when no one asks). However, when it comes to my home, I have put it off for some reason (well endless renos and a broken camera didn't help either). Anyway, who really knows why... all I know it can be a little unnerving. Well thanks to Priya over at Once Upon a Tea Time (who asked me months ago for some pictures of my home) the cat is out of the bag. Priya has showcased my little desi home for all you great readers to see here. So go over and visit Once Upon a Tea Time... thanks Priya for such a lovely post, it is such a thrill that one of my favourite bloggers actually posted about my little desi dwelling.

Fabric wall hangings...

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

My little powder room needs some serious 'oomph'. I have recently revamped it, but find its still missing something. So I have been mulling over some artwork ideas to help grace the classic grey walls.  I was thinking canvas or photography, but being such a small room it becomes a little overbearing. So I thought fabric. Why not?  Much to my delight, Vanessa from Decor Happy did a great post on affordable fabric art just this week!  I completely agree it is an alternative to traditional paintings or photography. Often times, you can get instant scale, pattern and colour.  I have this great acqua silk sari with fine black artwork on it (that I have never ever worn) that I'm considering as an option. I wonder if I could pull it off?  These pictures below certainly make the whole idea appealing.

There is always the traditional tapestry. I know its hard to tell with the bench, urns & pillows, but remove that all and put this baby in a modern white space. Stunning. Image via here

We always have Marimekko prints. How gorgeous is this black and white number? Image via here.

I'm partial to this Marimekko print available at CB2. Love it.

Scale is amazing here. Another graphic Marimekko print. Image via here.

Textile art adds instant texture & pattern. How fantastic does this look framed? Image via Style Files.

I think this is one of my favourites. A wonderful pop of colour in texture in a hallway. Image via My favourite and My best

Firetrucks & cupcakes...

Monday, June 28, 2010

Hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was full of firetrucks, yummy cupcakes and lots of  happy kids. It was a fantastic day and I just want to say thanks to all of you special folks who helped me out. My baby boy had a special day and it was thanks to all of you. Its Monday and I'm exhausted already...time to grab a coffee or two to get this week started.

Gotta have flowers & firetrucks.

Delicious fire hat cupcakes made by my friend C. Yummy!

Yep, we met some real firemen who gave us a great tour. Nice treat for the mommies, I mean for the kids.

A oh so yummy and beautiful birthday cake!

Getting everyone into the spirit with their little fire chief helmets!

I could live like this...

Friday, June 25, 2010

Friday...thank god you are here. Although this weekend will be a busy one with a house full of 5000 screaming kids on a sugar high (well, not quite 5000), I think I need to pause for a moment and just pretend that I am here right now.  BM if you are reading this,  please take my advice: marry rich, fly away to Greece and have a place like this ready for your friends (specifically me) to mooch off of. Ya, I could live like this. Happy Friday folks.

I know you guys want to be here just as much as I do. This place is on sale in Mykonos, Greece. Image via Yatzer.

Dutch design...

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

These days it feels like everyone but me is travelling somewhere glamorous. I guess I just gotta live vicariously through them. One of my best friends is galavanting through Holland enjoying all sorts of Dutch delights. I'm pretty sure one of her pit stops is Amsterdam where I'm sure she is getting her fill of gorgeous canal homes and boat houses. Anyway, in the meantime I always wondered what the canal homes and boat houses looked liked from the inside.... so let's take a peak shall we?

Kiddy Corner: Big room, little man

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Back to the decorating talk.  Keeping in the theme for today, I thought it would be great to show some fantastic examples of rooms dedicated for the little men in our lives. Unfortunately, my little D still lives in his sister's old yellow room with a few trucks thrown in for good measure. Poor kid, gotta put his room makeover on my to do list. In the meantime, let's look at some inspiration shall we?

Maybe I can keep yellow? Just throw in some black? Image via decorpad

My dad would love this room for little D, he has a thing for planes. I like. Image via decorpad

Yes I know its white, but I'm liking all that colour and that glorious old map. Image via here

From baby to breakdancer...

I am pausing from the decorating talk just for a second - Today is a little bittersweet for me as my baby boy turns 2 years old.  It was just a moment ago when he was so tiny in my arms and now he is a rambunctious, fun loving and very happy toddler. Don't get me wrong, I am as proud as a mommy can be as he has turned into such a happy, social kid with a big personality and even bigger heart.  But on the other hand, I miss his littleness already. From baby to little breakdancer all in a heartbeat. Where does the time go? Fortunately we will mark this special occasion with lots of balloons, cake and firetrucks this upcoming weekend. Happy Birthday D...love mommy.

Busting out his dance moves for all of us to see.

Monday Must Have...Stone & Figs...

Monday, June 21, 2010

I have no idea why I'm drawn to this. Its not like I'm a big fig eater. Who knows, maybe it is carved stone...earthy and pretty. Putting it on my Monday must have list.

Why do i like this? image via Lombok

Mixing up the metallics...

Friday, June 18, 2010

I have a friend who has been struggling in her decision to bring in some bronze elements into her mostly grey, silver and chrome palette. She is afraid of mixing metallics, but I think she can do it...as long as it stays balanced. I think it adds a bit of texture to the room. What do you guys think? Keep it all matchy matchy or mix it up?

Loving this bold bronze like statement mirror that works quite nicely with chrome legs and mirrored lamps. Image via Homes and Gardens.

Bring in a little gold with some painted iron? Nice. Image via here.

Elephant side tables...Really?

Thursday, June 17, 2010

I was recently inspired by a fun new blog called Of Peacocks and Paisleys who has been sharing her love of all things elephants! Now some of you may have seen one of these hanging out at your mom's house or that uncle of yours that loves to collect animal statues?

Look familiar? Image via Antique Helper.

It is true that you can make these little friends look great in any room. The tip is not to have a collection so it looks like you are sporting a mini zoo. Don't believe that its possible? Take a look...

A nice cup of tea...

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

My mommy is in the UK at the moment, and I'm pretty certain she is drinking a very nice cup of tea (well, she may be on her 5th one of the day by now). Who doesn't love a great cup of tea? I certainly do and I love this great Quintessentially Fine Art Print by Besty Benn of the UK. It is an adorable celebration of all things wonderfully British, like my mom.

Hope you all had a terrific weekend. I had a delightful weekend as hubby dearest surprised me with a new blogging tool. Specifically, this little baby...

She is beautiful isn't she? Macbook pro available here.

I have been wanting one for ages and it was firmly placed on my 2011-2012 purchase list (yes, I list everything). Hubby attended a charity event this week and bid on this little treasure "for me". I think much to his surprise he actually won it. I am posting right now using my Mac and LOVE it. I still have to figure it all out (as I have been a PC girl all my life)...but something tells me I will get use to quickly. In the meantime, I'm hunting for the perfect sleeve to protect it. Anyone have any suggestions? What about some of these options below? Decisions, decisions. What a great way to start a week.

The  Hunter Gatherer? Available here.

A new take on on Manilla envelope. Available here.

A little liquid silver perhaps? Available here.

Laptop bling and affordable. Available here.

P.S. Don't forget to enter my GIVEAWAY this week!
