Ask DW: What kind of kitchen window treatment?

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

My friend's G & M just finished refacing their midcentury home kitchen and now need some ideas for their kitchen window treatment. Should they go shutter, blinds or roman? I'm think a clean lined roman shade with some pattern and colour. Perfect opportunity to add some punch into a neutral kitchen So readers what do you suggest?
G & M's lovely kitchen! We even narrowed down our paint selections to a few light grey options and that gorgeous light fixture is from Restoration Hardware.  Crappy photo via me...I rushed the shot!
Now we can always go with the simple strpes? A classic. Image via Decorpad.
Or maybe a bamboo for some needed and unexpected texture? Image via Decorpad.
Custom patterned roman shade? I lean toward a modern geometric pattern rather than floral. I'm also liking this shot of yellow/chautreuse! Image via here.
Colour never hurts. Image via Decorpad.
I would definitely start with a visit to Tonic Living to look at some of these glorious fabric choices! M I would also start here for your quotes for a treatment...nothing beats shopping local!

Ooh...agreed! Def. colour and pattern! You're friends have a beautiful kitchen - love the white shakers with dark cabinetry.
Tonic Living is the perfect place to start...I love your palette shown above...especially that first one. So fun!

Roman shade with geometric pattern would look lovely in this kitchen.

While I agree some color is needed, I think bamboo roman shades...seems like the widows are small and there is a minimal amount of light. With the roman shades you will still get the light, even when they are closed. Maybe add the color with a few subtle accessories. I love Anthropologie for kitchen accessories. Oh, and love Tonic Living! Isn't it great?

i would def suggest organic bamboo ones...they absorb cooking smells and are practical in every way

Picture with the bamboo blinds from Decorpad is very inspiring! My kitchen only has a backsplash no windows so am all envious!

But love the picks that you got...

I love love love the simple roman shades with the white and black (grey) stripes! So chic. Add the color with some ART or a collection of plates or tiles or something fun above the window.

I want to say pattern and colour, but I'm also loving those striped romans in the first photo. Love the idea of a contemporary geometric pattern too!

Anything that is colorful will look good.. or the striped romans with some greens at the window sill to add a dash of color ??

I like woven shades which naturally have a pattern and some color and also bring in texture. That would be my choice. Great pics.
