Monday Must Have...on a Tuesday

I'm not a huge tea light fan. Who knows why really.  I think I was traumatized from my sister J's wedding when we have to gift wrap 700 of them as giveaways. Anyway, I digress... now these porcelain tea lights from Graham & Green below I could seriously get use. They are beautiful. I love the bright white exteriors and how the colour glows from within. A total summer find I say.

In a blink and its over....

my weekend that is. Wow did that go by fast. I did manage a Saturday afternoon jaunt to Toronto's Queen Street (it actually felt like date with my hubby which never happens)! I'll debut some of my finds soon. Of course a little birthday celebration for my baby D which involved a trip to the movie theatre and lots of cars and cake. Have a good Monday folks.

I want this chair. I will get this chair. I'm practically dreaming about it and bugging hubby to death about getting one. I will try really hard to escape this weekend to see if I love sitting in it as much as I love looking at it (you know...act like function really matters here).  Escape is the key word here...Happy Friday folks.

My little D turns 3....

Happy Birthday to my beautiful little boy today who turns 3 years old. Where did three years go? D you are full of charisma and so much charm....you make me so very happy to be you mama. You have the best smile ever.  Happy Birthday my little ladoo.

Candy coated rainbow....

This weekend was a flurry of activity with my little sister's bridal shower. It was a candy themed shower no less as she loves her candy (plus she is so sweet!). I was tasked to do the candy bar (with the help of my cousin & sister) and seriously, I thought I was some Indian Martha Stewart or something. It is amazing how many hours you can waste researching candy bars on the internet.  Anyways, we were all more than pleased on how it turned out and all the guests loved it. Ladies were smiling, kids were running around and everyone was on a collective sugar high....good party if I do say so myself. Here are some snapshots of the event.

My weekend was sweet...

My weekend was real good. Nothing beats being surrounded by so much happiness and of course, yummy treats.  Feeling great now (my cold is pretty much gone) and still on a sugar high from my little sister N's shower. Here is a teaser...more to come this week.

Positive thinking..

I'm tired of this cold. I am determined it will go away today. Positive thinking. Largely because I'm hosting my sister's bridal shower with my mom & sisters tomorrow. I'm praying that good make-up and cold medication will save me. Fingers crossed. Happy Friday folks.

Lucky me got a head cold. Yippee...I feel like total crap today (so sad that one night of partying does this to me).  So I'm skipping out on my design post today to try and get some rest (well, sorta kinda, finish work first). Fingers crossed this little bug goes away fast because I'm feeling way too cranky for my own good.

Naughty & Nice...

So what did I do last weekend you ask? My weekend was absolutely rammed with loads of fun with an artistic themed bachelorette party and a purple explosion bridal shower.  Congrats again to my friend B & my cousin H.  Definitely a weekend full of laughs and way too many yummy baked goods!

Well we started out right with nutritious strawberries!

But that little health kick quickly went away. Some how we ended up indulging in loads of champagne and these little jello shots. Good way to kick start a party. Yes, that is what you think it is.

Our entertainment for the evening (well some of the final products). Mine is the one on the bottom right, in case your wondering. 

Oh next day is full of yummy bridal shower cupcakes.

You should really backup ....really...

I lost all my pictures on my blackberry so now I'm sad. Stupid me (who works in IT) knows it is a cardinal rule to backup. I just never bothered with my blackberry and I really should have because I took loads of 'in the moment' pics of the kids, Homesense trips and random shots of pretty things. Aww man I just realized I had one of my favourite pics of my son's face covered with toothpaste on there...sorry I digressed. Anyway, I always enjoyed flipping through my BB pics. Defective SIM card was the culprit. Thankfully I still have my Macbook Pro catalogue of pics...but I have recently found out that I need a new hard drive to make these files compatible for backup as it won't work on my current hard drive? Is anyone else say "whaa?' like me. Anyway my shoulders are too tense to figure this out right now.

I need big art

I need a big piece of art people. A few weeks ago hubby & I moved our living room art into the kitchen as it was a better fit. As a result our living room looks like this now.

Empty. I know its not the end of the world (ya, sis I hear you even over the Internet) but it is seriously bothering me. Sorry for the crooked shot. Image via me.

So its driving me insane. I hate that wall (well the whole room now) because of that large gap. Herein lies the problem. I want a big piece of framed art but I can't afford to spend thousands of dollars on it. Sure I can try to DIY it, but I don't wanna. Yes I can make a gallery wall...but I don't want to do that either. Do I sound like a whining child yet? I've tried the Homesense & Winner's options but have found nothing. I've called up Art Interiors..but they practically laughed at my budget (only a few hundred dollars) and my size requirements (ok they didn't really laugh, but offered some smaller options). Why is it so hard to find something affordable that looks like this? Why, why, please somebody tell me why?

Happy Birthday Dad...

I was about 18 when I was shortlisted for some national university scholarships and went through a lengthy interview process.  I'll never forget one interviewer's question asking who my hero was and why. The person who immediately popped into my mind, without any doubt, was my dad. I explained that whatever hardships my dad went through he remained calm, positive and determined to succeed. I have been lucky that throughout my life my dad has been both a teacher and mentor to me. Even today I really value his insight and perspective on things. He is a great dad and terrific grandfather and today we'll celebrate with some yummy birthday cake....can't wait. Happy Birthday Dad.

Village decor...

I haven't been to India in a while but some of my fondest memories were with my family lounging around on old rope made daybeds ('munjah' as we called them...sorry I'm spelling this phonetically). These 'munjahs' were used for sleeping, sitting around, you would always find a random bibi (aka 'grandmom') one one of these babies and a pile of vegetables next to her on a tray ready for her to prep in some way or another. I never once thought that these functional pieces back in small Indian villages could actually work here as a design element. So I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this 'munjah' (Charpoiye daybed)  on VivaTerra. I would actually use this in my home. Yep throw it on my deck and bring back that desi village vibe right in my own backyard.
