Desi Art: Kangan Arora

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

UK artist Kangan Arora's fun and quirky artwork can't help but leave a smile on your face. Kangan is a textile designer and freelance photographer who is based out of London. She combines traditional techniques like hand embroidery an appliqué with screen-printing to create fun and quirky prints and surfaces. Kangan finds her inspiration in popular Indian culture and creates beautiful textiles for the home. I, of course, am drawn to the instant desi vibe. I'm kinda excited about her aesthetic. It doesn't take itself too seriously which is nicely refreshing. I mean, who doesn't love a cup of tasty Indian garam chai? Especially when the recipe is right on your tea towel. Check out Kangan's shop here and her blog here.
Colourful varanassi cow cushions are available here. Cute right?
Adore this tea towel. Need this tea towel. Will make more chai with this tea towel. Pinkie promise. Also available here.
Even better. Masala chai recipe on the tea towel itself. Perfect. I need to get me a set! Available here.

Chai linen pillow. Yes please. Available here.

Mmmm I love chai! All of my roommates throughout university were Indian, so I was lucky they introduced me to it. They used to laugh at me when I called it chai TEA, because chai MEANS tea, so "tea tea"... Anyhow, it's delicious and I would love that pillow. The tea towels would make perfect gifts for my old roommies!

How fun! I love the pillow. Did you know that "tea" in Czech is also Chai? spelt differently...
