Oh I can see some of you cringing through the screen...others saying, what's the big deal? I lived this people and well..emotions can run high at times. Now can a little decorating solve all potential bollywood in law drama? Not a chance. But it sure can lift your spirits and change your focus. So a few tips from me for those folks living in this type of temporary (or maybe forever) situation. Over at masalamommas.com.

oh, I've lived this! I decorated all common spaces the way I wanted to (because it was my house). And they were free to do whatever with their personal spaces.
I did have to close my mind to all comments on my taste. But I have to do that with my own mom, so it was not that bad :)
I think it gets messy when home ownership is shared. In my case it was easy. My house, my rules. So I had it (relatively) easy. Ha!
PS> also helps when husband shares your taste. Makes decorating a no brainer.

Silk flowers!?? HILARIOUS! Reminds me of my friend.. Want to know what her MIL has all over the walls in her living room? Team photos from a soccer team her husband played on in HS.So.. mostly pictures of other teenage boys. So weird.. But that's her decor.. Oy!

The story of my life! Thanks for posting this - interesting how this is not discussed more often, given how many people in India live with their in-laws.
