My desi home: Bedroom revamp...

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

I have been only complaining about my lacklustre bedding for over seven years. It was grey and blah for years. No colour or any type of design aesthetic whatsoever. So in the beginning of this year I said I would spruce it up and I finally managed to do it. With a bit of MFAMB art here, Homesense chair and cushions, gorgeous West Elm bedding, an old saree and my Mod Pieces refurbished vintage lamps I am happy! Now, I still need a few pieces here and there (ahem overhead lighting) but the progress has changed the feel of the space already. I feel happier when I wake up and go to bed because I'm surrounded with so much pretty. R is adjusting to the pink injection but I know he secretly thinks it looks better too. So what do you guys think?
Much better right? Colour makes the world of difference and it all started with my commissioned piece from blogger extraordinaire Jenny from MFAMB. I told her to think bollywood and she did! For the ugly BEFORE photo go here.
Can I just say AMAZING bedding from West Elm (next day delivery too). Organic Seersucker duvet set with feather grey striped sheets. I wanted fresh white bedding (a staple in my books) and I scored with my Homesense find pillows!
So I was never going to wear this saree so I decided to throw it on my bed. I seriously gasped when someone gifted me this saree (early wedding dinners its a tradition to gift things to the new couple). But good thing I had the foresight to hang onto the fabric. Ten years later, with a little help from my mom & aunt and it looks great on my bed!
Oh my gorgeous vintage Indian lamps! Lia from Mod Pieces worked tirelessly to bring life into these 25+ year beauties! She did a fabulous job (see her post here)  with a black shade (gold lining inside) and I know I will keep these in my family forever! Sorry I had not time to 'style' the bedside table so you'll have to see my utilitarian EQ3 alarm clock.  Oh well, next time you'll get the glamour shot!!
I love everything about the brass, magenta, white bedding and mixed up patterns! Small things make a world of a difference! I'm convinced I sleep much better due to this design injection. All images via me.

Happy 4th of July to all my American friends! Hope you are all taking time to relax!
