The Laughing Buddha Rescue...

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

My little sis N is a teacher and more often than not, she receives very interesting gifts from her students. Some are useful and then others, not so much. Recently, she was bestowed a laughing Buddha from one of her student's parents. I figured if we painted it up a bit, it could be a great piece on her bookshelf. Besides it is a Buddha - take all the luck and properity you can get.  So here is our DIY story...
Once upon a time there was a laughing Buddha that was on route to my home. N was driving while her husband G was tasked to carry the fragile ceramic Buddha on his lap.  A boring 20 minute drive later, G found the ceramic Buddha somehow crushed on his lap. Seriously, did he crush it with his thighs? A mystery. Uh huh. N was not amused.
DW and N were in a panic that their DIY plans were thrown awry (they had to now fix someting?) They immediately brought out their  dollar store crazy glue and tried to put the Buddha together. Since DW was too lazy to put on any gloves - the glue was on her hands for the entire day. A true sacrifice to save the Buddha.
Once we glued the pieces together, N patiently held laughing Buddha together. The waiting was intense.
Surprisingly it worked and the laughing Buddha was ready to be spray painted.
Off to the garage they went. DW carefully used high gloss whity Krylon spray paint to cover all of the tacky silver. Her back & forth spray painting motions were out of this world.
The spray paint DIY was a success. The laughing Buddha had a new life....he had been saved. Ready to bring happiness and luck into his new home.
N & her laughing Buddha lived happily ever after & husband G never touched it again. The end. All images via me.

That's great that you could glue the figurine back together-- can't even tell it was broken!

Everyone must be glad the buddha figurine did not break into smaller pieces. It looks perfect. Great idea to paint over. Beautiful piece.
